This doesn't surprise me with Loftstel. I have heard the same things about their hostel in D.C. not having the proper permits.

A Philadelphia hostel has been temporarily shut down.
The most interesting thing about the original article is that the journalist is surprised that there are hostels in the USA:
"Hostels aren't just for backpacking through Europe. Now they're in our own backyard."
