HI Galveston Hostel in Texas closed permanently
It's too bad that it can't be reopened. Story seen via Travelplug.

I tried staying there once. The desk clerk could not answer our questions about the hostel or even a good place to eat and the permanent answer ever received about booking a reservation was they were booked this came from multiple sources. When we tried to stay we were promptly offered a motel room there at 70.00 a night.

Hurricane season just officially started Monday, and it sounds like no one in the Gulf or the South East is prepared. I saw on the evening news Galveston is still cleaning up from last year.
