Mary's Guesthouse, a hostel and group lodging place in the beautiful Victorian adventure town of Jim Thorpe Pennsylvania
Guesthouse/Hostel for Sale in Victorian Adventure Town
Here is a great opportunity for the right
people....if you've thought about the Hospitality
or Accommodations business, here's something to
consider: Mary's Guesthouse is an established
accommodations business that caters to visitors to
the beautiful Victorian adventure town of Jim
Thorpe, PA, Ninety minutes northwest of Philadelphia.
It is modeled after European lodgings, so it's not
the typical American B&B or motel. And that makes
it easier to run (and more rewarding). Mary's has
a track record of nine seasons of accommodating
guests from all over the world, and helping them
have a nice time during their visit to this
awesome town. Hundreds of entries in our
guestbook attest to the great location, comfy
accommodations, homey atmosphere and helpfulness
that our guests enjoy. As an affordable,
family-friendly lodging place, we have made it
possible for thousands of people to visit Jim
Thorpe, who may have otherwise been 'priced out'
of staying overnight. We also have helped them
enjoy their visit more, by offering advice on
things to do, places to go, restaurants to fit
their appetite and budget, directions to/from
other places, etc. We make sure everyone has a
good time here in Jim Thorpe and especially during
their time at Mary's Guesthouse. We have truly
loved starting and growing the business, but after
nine years of service to our guests and the town,
we need to step away for a while and are looking
for the right people to continue this business
into the future.
Now for the work - running a guesthouse means
advertising and marketing, fielding all kinds of
calls, taking reservations, offering advice on the
phone, answering emails, stripping beds, making
beds, vacuuming floors, dusting, straightening up,
washing and folding
lots and lots of laundry, cleaning bathrooms and
kitchen, welcoming guests, helping them unload
stuff into the house, giving them the basic info
about the place, helping them throughout their
visit, recommending restaurants and things-to-do,
collecting money, keeping the books, writing
checks to pay taxes/bills/expenses, doing the
banking, fixing broken appliances or fixtures,
calling restaurants and attractions for the
guests, working out package deals with other
providers, cleaning porch/sidewalk/back yard,
shoveling snow, opening/closing windows, .....
Sounds like a lot, but it's only twelve hours per
week, more or less.
Notice there is nothing there about COOKING...
because Mary's is NOT a B&B, you don't need to get
up at the crack-of-dawn to cook breakfast.
Our situation is that we are interested in moving
on with our lives, and looking for someone suited
to carrying on the tradition of comfortable,
friendly and affordable lodging in the Jim Thorpe
area.
The major aspect of the deal is that we feel that
we must separate ourselves financially from the
property in order to make the necessary mental
dissociation from the business. If we still own
it, we'll feel as if we must 'oversee'... and that
is NOT what we want (and not what the future
manager wants). So we are looking to sell the
operation and the real estate together, and
looking for the right people to keep things going
into the future. When we find them, we'll give
them a good deal! It's never been about the money
here at Mary's Guesthouse - we want things to
'work' for the next owners, and we'll help that
happen.
