Hostel General Manager - Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Hello everyone!
We wish to provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to a driven, well-rounded, experienced and unique individual who has the desire to immerse themselves in all aspects of the start-up and operating the newest hostel in Calgary, Alberta, the 4th Street Hostel. This recently renovated building, located in the heart of the entertainment district of downtown Calgary, was created with the intent of providing a unique western Canada Rocky Mountain alpine hostel experience. The 3 storey layout with a common area and 10 suites provides a mix of private room and 6-bed dorms for a total of 72 beds, as well as an apartment for the Manager’s living quarters.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
-Front desk – scheduling bookings, responding to phone calls and online questions, walk-ins
-Customer Service – ensure that each and every guest has an enjoyable stay
-Marketing – actively monitoring online information and reviews, assessing and expanding into opportunities, establishing relationships with other
-Cleaning – stripping/making beds, linen laundry, cleaning floors, kitchen, bathrooms, general building maintenance
-Tour information/booking – establish tour connections and assist guests in tour bookings and providing general activity information for the Calgary area
-Staffing training and management – finding and keeping excellent staff as the hostel grows in occupancy and bookings
-Website production, maintenance, online booking interface management – maintaining hostel website and management software
-Establishing and monitoring budgets, cost containment, cash-handling
-Meeting and exceeding booking and revenue targets
-Supplies management (cleaning, food and drink, vending, marketing materials, linens)
-Enforcement of rules of operation and ability to deal with any undesirable individuals, security system monitoring, managing safety programs
-Get involved and be an active promoter of hostelling industry
Skills/Experience:
-Hospitality experience and understanding of the needs of hostellers
-Self-starter with previous hostel experience and desire to work in industry
-Good computer and internet/website operating skills
-Understanding how to create and maintain a welcoming environment for your guests
-Excellent people skills and belief that customers always come first
-Entrepreneurial spirit to better continue to hone the business and develop new revenue generators, and tap into new niche markets for increased bookings
-Appropriate Canadian work permit/visa
