HOUT BAY BACKPACKERS (www.houtbaypackers.co.za) has been operating for two years and is the only hostel accommodation available in the highly sought after Hout Bay suburb of Cape Town. Hout Bay has more than 47 guest houses and Bed and Breakfast facilities and is close to the famous Llandudno surfing beach, seal island, Chapman’s peak and offers a wide range of activities & attractions within easy reach of central Cape Town. Hout Bay Backpackers has grown from strength to strength and is in the process of moving to a prime location on the beach near the harbour where it will accommodate double the number of people. The lodge is run as a division of ALL OUT AFRICA, an organization that operates in Swaziland, South Africa and Mozambique and runs two other backpacker lodges (one in Swaziland and one in Mozambique) plus a range of responsible tours & volunteer experiences (www.alloutafrica.com). Hout Bay Backpackers serves as the main accommodation base for All Out Africa volunteers on working holiday experiences in Cape Town. You would work with an assistant and a cleaner to run this 30 bed hostel and there is a project co-ordinator who manages the volunteer placements & projects. The new premises will provide a number of opportunities to expand and improve the hostel. The lodge’s unique selling points are: it’s prime beach location in Hout Bay, it’s scenic views and it’s affordable rates.
As manager of the lodge you would be responsible for the running of the lodge. This would include the following activities:
• Supervise the lodge assistant and cleaner
• Market the lodge
• Organise food shopping and cooking of meals and manage a food budget
• Oversee the accommodation of volunteers & support them in their living needs
• Encourage appropriate backpacking guests to stay
