Managers for beautiful eco guest house in Banos, Ecuador

Looking for a change in scenery? We live in a small mountain town (half way between the Andes and Amazon) in Ecuador and are looking for managers to run our beautiful eco guest house for 6 months of the year. At this stage, we are looking for a couple (or 2 friends) for 6 months (March-September 2016), which could also be ongoing, i.e. 6 months on, 6 months off, 6 months on, 6 months off, etc... for the right people. We are also open to a longer term than 6 months (and potentially indefinitely)...again, for the right people.

WHO WE ARE:

Our idyllic river-front eco guest house has been serving travellers (and the occasional volunteer) for 7 years. We are located in a quiet spot 2km from the tourist town of Banos and attract a variety of guests, from your budget backpacker on a splurge to families to younger and older couples looking for more comforts whilst travelling. We are not a backpackers, a budget guest house nor a party place; people generally come here to relax in comfort whilst still enjoying everything on offer in Banos and it's surrounds. The guest house has 11 bedrooms with private bathrooms (no dorms), with a maximum capacity of 34 people. We strongly believe that all guests should receive excellent service, and we rely on our management and staff to provide it in an organized fashion. We serve homemade, fresh food for breakfast (and for dinner, upon request) that is run by local staff. la casa verde has been rated the No. 1 'hotel' on tripadvisor, in Banos, for the past 4 years...we intend to keep it that way!

We, the owners, will be spending at least half the year out of the country, so will be away from the guest house. As a result, we are in need of trustworthy, independent, organized, committed managers to handle all operations.

WHO YOU ARE:

We are looking to hire trustworthy, hard-working, detail-oriented and well presented full-time managers; a couple or 2 friends, probably in your 30's or 40's. You should have a strong work ethic, great organizational and problem solving skills, be down to earth and fun loving, yet have a professional attitude. As the managers, you would have excellent communication and decision-making skills, be able to manage staff and delegate work responsibilities, and be attentive to detail. You must be able to go with the flow and understand the Ecuadorean working style as well as meet the demands of our (mostly foreign) guests. You need to have great people skills, a positive work ethic, and be willing to be around the guest house 10+ hour days, 6 days/week (which isn't necessarily working 10+ hours/day).

You will also be able to conduct routine maintenance. The building was mostly built by us, so is up to 'international standards' and is also fairly low maintenance. However, there may be some things that need doing here and there, e.g. unblocking a hot water tap (usually because of calcium build-up), occasionally sweeping out the guttering on the roof etc... You don't need any qualifications for this, but one of you needs to be 'handy'.

You will also have no trouble communicating, reading, and writing in English and Spanish. If you speak multiple languages, this is even better! It is absolutely necessary that you have both English and Spanish though.

Preference may be given to those who have an interest in eco-tourism, understand guest house/hostel life (but remember, this is NOT a backpackers hostel), have management and/or hospitality experience and have traveled in Ecuador (or other parts of South America). Non-smokers only. No pets allowed.

WHAT YOU DO:

Management responsibilities will include day-to-day operations of running the guest house, including managing a 3-person staff, administrative duties, running the bookings, guest billing, guest relations, scheduling activities/taxis, taking inventory for kitchen and guest house supplies and general/light property maintenance amongst other small activities.

WHAT YOU'LL RECEIVE:

We provide you a gorgeous and private 3 bedroom penthouse apartment, all food, some commissions and US$1000/month. Upon successful completion of your agreed upon time, reimbursement for full or partial flight costs will be considered and discussed. The manager will have no living expenses while employed at la casa verde, aside from any 'luxury' food or beverage items.

In general, our guests are wonderful, although you will come across the occasional person who will test you (that's life though, right!?). You'll get to meet people from all walks of life...and even make new friends (from Ecuador and all over the rest of the world) along the way! You'll receive full, hands-on training before taking over. This is an especially great opportunity for those who have ever considered starting/running their own guest house/hostel also.

Please check out our website, www.lacasaverde.com.ec for more info about la casa verde. If you like what you see, please send us a covering letter telling us why you're the best for the job and your CV showing your previous work experience. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Thanks for reading and all the best!

Cheers
Rebecca and Doug
