Volunteers for Scottish Highlands backpacker lodge - between April and September 2025
Loch Ness Backpackers Lodge is a 39-bed hostel located in Drumnadrochit in the Highlands of Scotland.
We're a friendly, busy, but relaxed and family-run hostel looking for happy, hard-working, friendly volunteers to join our team. In return for helping out with cleaning, checking in guests and bar work (6 hours a day, 5 days a week), we offer:-
Free accommodation + food + full use of all the hostel facilities.
A private dorm for volunteers with their own kitchen.
We are looking for volunteers who will commit to minimum stay of 8 weeks, because in our experience this makes for a better experience for volunteers - a longer commitment means a deeper connection with the area, closer relationships with other staff, more variety and responsibility in work tasks, and all-round better memories.
We are ideally located for Great Glen Way walkers (look it up!). There are lots of other beautiful walks in the area too, plus options for all sorts of other outdoor activities, although there's no denying walking is the mainstay of the area. That plus Nessie-hunting, whisky-tasting and castle-visiting, of course.
When you're looking for a bit of city hustle and bustle, Inverness is a 25-minute bus ride away, or you can ride with us whenever we go in (which is a lot, for supplies!).
Our volunteers are the life-blood of our hostel. We pride ourselves on our amazing staff ratings and that's all down to the volunteers who work hard, enjoy having fun with the guests, and generally love living in the Highlands. It's the ultimate win-win-win scenario.
We usually have 4-6 volunteers. They come from all around the world and always become very close, both to us and to one another. You can read our Volunteers Book when you arrive to see for yourself! I can also email you our online reviews doc, which we're very proud of :-)
The work is split between cleaning, reception duties, bar work and general hostel maintenance which can be anything from updating the staff board to gardening.
When you're not on shift, you can indulge in your hobbies, chill out by Loch Ness (do some Nessie-spotting!), plus there's lots of interaction with guests, and we have a great bar too with over 25 Scottish beers!
There is another bar, three restaurants, three cafes, a library and a small supermarket in the village.
