Age Limit in Dorms?

In my hostel, creepy people can be anyone with any age, any nationality and any gender.

Creepy behaviors include:
- Extraordinary demand for no light in the dorm (he requested even a reading light and kindle paperwhite must be turned off)
- can't take aircon when the temperature is over 30.
- drinking problem
- strangely strong odor
- talking in the dorm in early morning (6am)
- extreme intolerance

We don't have any age limit because it can't help us kick away creepy people at all.

Its not often that you get old guys wanting to stay in a dorm (if you're over 40 and cant afford a private, shoot yourself), but when you get them they usually are super creepy. This one guy once declined my offer to upgrade him to a private single room (after complaints from everyone else in his dorm, guests changing to other hostels, etc.) so I had to reassign everyone else in that dorm to other rooms and leave creepy old guy in there by himself. After 4 or 5 similar situations I instated an age limit for the dorms.

:exmark: If you have an age limit, why stop at that? Then what's to prevent a hostel from banning guests because of their nationality, religion (by drawing an inference), sexual orientation (if it seems apparent), etc.

No! I think an age limit would go against hostel values: namely, part of the hostel experience is about people of various backgrounds and experiences all coming together in a tolerant and open atmosphere. As long as people behave in a respectful and considerate manner, then they should be allowed to stay and not be asked to leave. This also includes, but is not limited to guests returning to their dorm in a state of drunkenness, talking loudly and maybe even vomiting or urinating - something that younger people are more likely to do - as this is a part of growing up. I'm NOT saying by any means this is common, but it does happen from time to time. When I was much younger, I went through the excessive drinking phase, something I eventually grew out of. Of course you can have older alcoholics do the same - but seriously, a lot of young people love to drink excessively.

In all honesty, creepiness does not belong to any particular age group. And I think we should all treat people how we would like to be treated! Imagine if one of you in the advanced years of your life, say over 45 or perhaps 50, decided to stay in a hostel - for the experience and of course because you want to get new ideas, etc. However, their private rooms are overbooked, but management politely inform you that they don't accommodate people in your age category because you're creepy! How would you feel? I'd say insulted at the least.
