Best Hostels in Europe (particularly small hostels)

What are your favorite hostels in Europe? It's easier to get an idea about the quality of big city hostels because they usually have a lot of reviews on the booking sites, but what about hostels outside the bigger cities?

Any hidden gems out there?

I'd definitely recommend the following hostels according my personal experience:

Cesky Krumlov: Krumlov House , only 25 beds, a cozy atmosphere, wooden curving decorations and a lovely owner.

Prague: Sir Toby's is a must, not a small hostel but very good facilities and excellent services, when I visit Prague, I always stay there.

Bruges: Hostel Lybeer, about 50 beds, a typical old-style building, themed nights, an authentic setup for the early 1900's, and also a very good host who can tell you anything about Bruges.

Split: Hostel Split, 15 beds, run by an aussie chick, a lovely small hostel in a lovely small city.

If you are looking for small hostels, I'd recommend small-hostels.com or just ask uktrail for hints! ;)

Thanks... those are the kinds of hostels I'm looking for.

Czech: I agree with Krumlov House and Sir Toby's. Also Poet's Corner in Olomouc.

Croatia: Green Lizard in Hvar. (I've not been to Split).

Ireland: Aille River, Doolin. Salmon Weir, Galway. Kilkenny Backpackers. Scholl Backpackers, Co Cork. Carriage Hostel, Donegal. Downhill, N Ireland.

And yes, all the hostels on small-hostels.com look like good candidates!

The Aille river hostel in Doolin Co. Clare was voted best village hostel and best overall hostel for the 2009 and 2010 season in Ireland, by guests voting through the independent holiday hostels website

There is a Hostel called Ginger Monkey in Slovakia in a village.
I had a few guests that were very excited about their stay there.
I think people go to this hostel because of the hostel experience they receive there and not for the city.

One day,soon I hope to visit also that hostel to see what make thous people to talk about it even after weeks they were there. :)
