Sex sells. It sells pretty much anything... from cars, to razors to sandwiches
and lets face it, for backpackers 'sex and booze' is a big part of travelling/hostelling. yet i've seen very little use of sex in the marketing of hostels. hotels do it (vegas baby!), bars do it (do i really need to provide examples?), why not hostels which are by and large far more conducive to sex than your average hotel or bar?
now there are some examples of it - most photos of hostels involve relatively good looking/photogenic people and if its a hostel near the beach you're pretty much guaranteed a few shots of girls in bikinis. there was also that really weird video posted here a while back for a hostel in berlin... but when compared to a lot of other industries, sex appeal seems to be distinctly lacking in hostel marketing.
is there a way of bringing 'sexy' back to hostelling? are there any hostels out there (the rising cock perhaps?) that consider themselves 'sexy'? if backpackers are out there trying to get flags, im kind of surprised at the fact that hostels arent tripping over themselves trying to present themselves as fun, fashionable and above all SEXY.
Don´t forget the majority of our guests are girls. I guess they don´t find Playboy-style marketing too appealing. Their priorities are security, friendliness and cleanliness. If they think your marketing attracts horny weird guys, they might think twice about booking a bed in your place.
I think it´s better to pesent your hostel as a place with a good, welcoming vibe. People (girls AND guys) want that before they think about getting laid.
No, that is actually valid. I just look at the last couple of TD and Contiki groups: Females 28 ,Males 15; Females 29, Males 16; Males 21, Females 30; Males 12, Females 30...
interesting you both took a male perspective of what constitutes 'sexy' (ok, not THAT interesting as you're both guys) - you dont think its possible to market 'sexy' to women? or to both?
i admit that the quiznos ad isnt a great example to follow - i just posted it to show sex is used in advertising virtually everything.

Are you thinking something like that:
Those ads are all over the German media now, as examples of vile, sexist campaigns, after a press release of the German Advertising Standards Council, which denounced the ads as "abasing and degrading"
A superb way to make your brand known, I must admit.

Indeed!!! Meanwhile my side note is: Is it worth to be world-wide-known AND ruining your reputation? Does the worst hotel on Tripadvisor or Ryanair's toilet charge plan did make an extra revenue because they became infamous or this just ensured future bookers to avoid such products because of their misunderestimated marketing campaign?
