Several years ago I dropped off hundreds of free mousemats at hostels in Australia and New Zealand as I reviewed hostels for BUG's guidebooks. This seemed to work well, but this time I am thinking about fridge magnets when I review hostels in North America later this year. They are cheaper, but more importantly they are lighter which is important as I plan on travelling light.
The question is, "will hostels mind me sticking BUG fridge magnets to fridges and lockers as I visit the hostels to review them for the BUG website?" They will be small, business card size, fridge magnets with the bug.co.uk URL and a short blurb about our site.

But you may want to give someting that can be seen and not be stuck in a place.
I would deffinetely change to pens!
Besides everyone uses one and they get lost and gone...they will be wondering everywhere.
I do not know about the shipping and the costs. But you know, just a thought!

We made a few hundred fridge magnets last year using an uploaded design on Vistaprint and it came in pretty cheap. Every decent hostel will have a guest kitchen and thus a fridge so it's a good way of plugging your site...the downside is that 1 out of every 100 backpackers will think it's cool enough to steal and so I reckon you'll need to resupply every year or so.
