Hi there,

I've been a fan and a visitor to HostelManagement for quite sometime but have never posted in the forum so thought it best so send a big hello to everyone out there.

I have worked in Hostelling for many years, working for the SYHA in Edinburgh which involved some relief work in various parts of the country including Glencoe, Islay, Melrose and Kirk Yetholm. I spent 2 years as the deputy manager of the SYHA's Edinburgh Bruntsfield hostel before being made redundant when it closed to make way for the new Edinburgh Central Hostel.

My partner and I then moved out to Latin America in 2006 where we started the Latin American Hostel Network - hosteltrail.com as well as the backpacker hostel "Hostel Trail" in southern Colombia. We now manage profiles for around 500 hostels and tour companies in Latin America with 14 writers who personally visit each hostel. We work closely with both HostelWorld and GOMIO to offer booking facilities and other online services.

I think this forum and website is an excellent concept and look forward to contributing to it in the future.

Como andas Tony?!?

I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself as I see you are a large hostel marketer in Latin America. I will be traveling to Colombia next week with the mind set that I will be returning and opening up my own hostel in the near future. After this initial trip, I will have my city picked out and a couple of options for real estate. Where are you located in Colombia? If I'm in your area, I'd really appreciate it if we could meet up for a quick chat. I'd like to learn more about hosteltrail (btw your site looks great), and share a little more about my own ambitions.

Hi Justin,

Thanks for your reply....I see from your other posts that you are dead set on setting up in Colombia. I'd be glad to share our experiences with you and pass on some info. We're based in the Southern City of Popayan - half way between Quito and Bogota.
