Hi all,
Great informative site & well laid out!

Have stayed in many hostels all over the world & now an opportunity has arisen to open my very own in my hometown of Portstewart. So please excuse the many questions in advance!

Thanks Josh,
But I cant find the UK Hostel building regs anywhere! And neither can my architect. Im trying to convert an old Police Station but I need minimum guidlines (not the tourist board's - I meet them :-) ) but the ones that meet planning permission. Anybody out there got them??

Hey BarryPort.
I am new to this forum aswell and from Ireland.
I hope to be returning home the end of this year and starting up a hostel in my hometown aswell.
As I am in the republic I think the regulations will be different.
In Northern Ireland is it also regulated under Failte Ireland(Independent Holiday Hostels of Ireland).
I contacted them and they said to contact TAMS (Tourism Accommodation Management
Services).
They said they are the independant regulation body.
