Introduce Yourself
Hello,
I've always dreamt of opening a boutique hotel but figured I would require mega moola upfront, so I figured why not go the hostel route? You know not the standard, insitutional-style ones that are currently operating in my city? Make it a trendier hostel with a conscious budget in mind of course!
When I came upon this site I thought this must be my calling! Hahahaha
I look forward to reading and learning everything about the business! And to read people's comments who have taken the plunge to open their own or to manage one!

Where are you located in Alberta? Edmonton, Calgary?
I lived for a year there in Edmonton when I was attedning UofO for foreign students. Great place and great memories!

Just a quick correction for JCJ that our beautiful University is U of A. If you are in Edmonton, come and check us out at GO Backpackers. We are trying not to be institutional! We love chatting with future hostel owners. Anything to grow hostels acceptance in the North American market. PM me if you ever want a personal tour if you are in the capital.

Welcome to the site and hostelling in Alberta. I'm actually going for that exact idea upscale, boutique backpacker hostel in an excellent location here in Calgary. We went for spacious guest/dorm rooms, leather couches, trendy open-design kitchen. We're opening in January so if you are ever in Calgary, you should drop by and check us out, Wicked Hostels. And if you have any questions, please feel free to PM me - just been through months of zoning and architect bureaucracy.

I am located in Edmonton, yes. Edmonton is a great city and there is much more to do here than only "clubbers" think! Lol.
I hope my hostel vision comes to fruition, are you currently in the hostel business yourself one way or another?
