Hostels with Hammocks
I came across an interesting "hammock hotel" via Twitter called Rocking J's.
$5 for a hammock and a locker:

Here's a video:
Is it a hostel? (I would call it a hostel.)
Does your hostel have a hammock? Do people use it? Everywhere I've see hammocks people seem to like them a lot. I've even seen hammocks in city hostels.

Definitely a hostel. I've stayed at J's dozens of times over the years. It's definitely no frills, but in our part of the world, and even more so on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, people aren't looking for much. They want cheap, and J provides it. He does very well with the volume that he has and the low operating costs in Costa Rica.
The private rooms that he has, as well as the treehouse, are kind of run down though. You can get a much nicer room in town for the same or less with a pool right outside of your door. During Easter week, and between Christmas and New Years, hammock rates can triple, and the place will be packed.
We have 6 or so hammocks at our place in San Jose, and we only rent them out if we're at capacity, and then we usually don't even charge for it. People will pay us back by word of mouth or taking posters to other hostels.

I haven't come across any hostels yet in Italy with hammocks. The idea might work well, especially during the hot Italian summers.

Isn't it all about climate after all? (not taking into consideration the overall character of the place)
