Hi,i am a guy from china ,i am not good at english ,but a have five years experience working in youth hostel,now i am want to open my own hostel in china,can you give me some advice.

Hi Zhouxiaojun, welcome to the site!

It’s fantastic to see experienced managers making the move to open their own hostels. I don’t know much about the hostel scene in China, so it would be really interesting if you could share what you have learned so far and what you will learn as you open your own business. Since I don’t have enough knowledge to offer you advice, I’ll ask some questions instead.

Are the guests in the hostel that you manage now mostly foreign or domestic travelers? Would you target the same market for your own hostel? How many beds would you like to have in your hostel? How soon do you think you will be able to open your hostel?

Hi,thank you for your supporting,i works in youth hostel since 2008,though i have 5 years experience in hostel,i have to learn a lot.

The hostel i works now has good business,almost 40% travelers from other counties,so all the staffs here have lots of chance to practice there english and know more culture about other counties.
yes,if i have a hostel,i think i can do it better,because i have the right to decide what i want to do ,in this hostel ,the boss ia a 45 years guy,he don;t want to invest anymore and sometimes he will not take my suggestions about the hostel.we have good cooperation with some famous booking web,such as HW,HB,B&B.we have good reviews on these web,so more and more foreigners come to our hostel.

You know ,all the staffs in the hostel can speak english ,so they can help the guests a lot.in the hostel ,we offer lots of service for foreigners,we can book bus/train/flight tickets for them to other cities,book the accommendations on the top of the mountain(I am at Huangshan city,An hui ,China,Huangshan mountain is a very famous mountain in china),give them some suggestions about how to climb the mountain,shuttle bus to the mountain and so on.

In one year i think my hostel will be founded,and i will try my best to do it best in china,i hope some day,lots of foreign guests will come to my hostel,you -----the Community Manager will come to china?

Do the web have chinese version ?i think the english version is very hard for chinese people to understand .

It’s always a challenge when you want to innovate, but the owner has lost the drive to improve. Once you open your own hostel you’ll get to change anything you like, but you’ll have to pay for it yourself. That tends to force a balance between plans for rapid improvement and maintaining financial stability. The difference is that YOU will get to decide which things are really important and which things can wait. That’s a pretty great feeling.

Thank you for the invitation! I’m not planning a trip to China anytime soon. I have never been there though, so maybe I should start thinking about it.

We don’t have a Chinese version of HostelManagement.com right now. Maybe in the future we can add a Chinese language section.
