Hi Kathleen,
Welcome to the site!
It sounds like you have a good background for running a hostel. The psychology will probably come in handy more often than you might think. We sometimes end up playing the role of counselor and therapist for our guests.
A small business course might be a really good idea to give you a firm understanding of how your accounting and cash flow will work. The Small Business Administration might also able to help you put together a business plan, find funding, and even coach you through some of the setup process.
While you’re in the planning stage, I would highly encourage you to visit the other hostels in your area where guests are likely to go before and after visiting your hostel. They can probably tell you about the challenges and unexpected joys they have encountered that you may not have thought about yet. Plus, it’s a good way to start your networking early.
This is an old thread, but it may have some points that could help you out.
Good luck!
