looking at berlin for a new hostel venture
i am from italy (sardinia), living in bologna, and after years of business involving music, shows, running a clothing label and a shop, i am finally now deciding to move out of italy, due to the terrible government and an economic crises that will hardly see an end in our (politically) poor country.
i speak fluently english, spanish and italian (of course), i have been coming often to berlin to visit friends and looking at opportunities. i have travelled a lot across europe and latin america, often by motorbike and also by foot. i love open air activities and camping, but i also used many hostel when i had to stay in cities.
my background is from IT (but i haven't done much about it since the early 90s!), i am pretty experienced on the web, i have experience in technical stuff (i was tech responsable for many events in italy) and i have a good hand in the kitchen, as most of us italians do.
i'm 44, but still looking at developments in my future years. i have set some money aside, which will be usefull for my next enterprise.
my idea is to find 3/4 partners in berlin to start an hostel (renting a property, for a start), with a young, fresh and cozy atmosphere, up to date but still affordable, where friendliness and welcoming are the keywords.
i am starting to study the subject, if you would like to develop the discussion i'm open to debate.

thank!
perhaps easier in bucharest, where property lease is cheaper and there's not so much competition as in berlin, well exploited in the past few years!

I can understand the desire to be very far from Berlusconi very well, but haven´t you thought about opening a hostel in Bologna? It has only two, both with a terrible location.

you got the point...and if it was "only" the prime minister, we could just be patient another 3 or 4 yrs and he'll probably pass away or go to the nut house :))
italy has a heavy problem with lack of cultural/social/civilization development since the 80s, not much can be done apart from a long process of hard work, and i have not much time to wait...
politics aside...
costs for lease/renovation/permission and burocracy make it very very long and difficult. just to get permissions to renovate and redesign a residential property could take 6 months or more. add the fact that bologna has become very inhospitable for youth, trying to push out of the center anything related to it (apart from the university, luckly) and its population is one of the elder in italy (which isn't a young country anyway, statistically).
berlin sits at the opposite side, in all this considerations, even though costs are not minor either, but it could be worth the hard work!
