Introduce Yourself
Hey everyone. I am so glad I have found this website, I can see that it will be a tremendous help in the months to come. My name is Tommy, I am 22 years old and will be moving to Clarksdale, Mississippi to partner up with Quapaw Canoe Company (island63.com) and start a Youth Hostel. We have the building, just need the funding and resources to get it off of the ground. I kayaked the Mississippi River last summer, and during my trip I met up with John Ruskey, the owner of Quapaw Canoe Company and he presented me with the opportunity to move from my home in South Florida to live in Clarksdale and start and manage the hostel. I have no prior experience but I am truly motivated to make this a successful (spiritually and financially) endeavor. As of right now I am going to school majoring in Resort and Hospitality at Florida Gulf Coast university. Look for my posting in the forum that introduces new Youth Hostels soon. We have kicked around a few names for the hostel and will most likely name it "Driftwood City" International Youth Hostel - Clarksdale, Mississippi. Happy Holidays everyone.

Ok, so heres my update. I am now in CLarksdale, Mississippi living in the apartment adjacent to the future site of Driftwood City Youth Hostel. The hostel quarters has 4,000 sq. ft to work with. As of right now I have put in new fluorescent lighting and begun to clean and strip the area. Yesterday we also put up a hammock for future use by guests of the hostel. We are applying for a grant and have high hopes in obtaining it. As soon as I figure out how to post pictures here I will. :) I hope everyone is staying warm!
