Welcome to the site...
I used to drive 18-wheelers, but not long haul -- just tomatoes in California. I ended up quitting my job and ended up in San Diego at this hostel the same day, which turned me into an enthusiast... :)
Hey, just found this forum while looking for resources about starting a hostel. I'm interested in either working at a hostel where I can learn the ropes, or partnering with someone who is founding a Hostel. I am a hard worker, a willing learner and have a passion hostels. Wish me luck!

I think the first step you should take is to write a business plan. Check out Palo Alto Software business plan pro. If someone comes to you and is interested in making an investment, they're going to want to see the kind of information that a business plan can provide. Also, in my experience a lot of un-realized expenses come to light while creating a business plan.
Once you've got that in your hands, it will be easier to approach potential investors.
Another great thing to look into are grants. There are TONS of grants out there for anything sustainable. If you could find a location that would allow things like solar panels, natural lighting, a grey water system, etc. you could probably find some money to do those things and more. A green hostel is also a helpful marketing tool.

Is there an equivalent of Palo Alto Software business plan pro for Mac OS? Apparently it's now only available for PCs...
