The Scottish Youth Hostel Association has opened the largest hostel in its history:
Scotland's most upmarket youth hostel will open its doors to the public tomorrow following the £10m conversion of a landmark building on Leith Walk.
More than 300 beds will be available at the biggest facility to be opened by the Scottish Youth Hostel Association during its 75-year history.
...The Leith Walk venture features the first licensed bar opened by the hostelling association, as well as an upmarket restaurant. Both the cafe-bar and the restaurant will be open daily from 10am-11pm. Other features include flat-screen TVs in the foyer showing 24-hour news broadcasts, wi-fi internet access, single, twin and family rooms, en-suite facilities throughout, lifts and soundproofed rooms.
The hostel has conference and meeting facilities and is also planning to organise cultural and festival packages. But it will also have the traditional cooking and laundry facilities.
Ralph Klinkenberg, general manager of the hostel, said up to 40 staff would be working at the hostel, which will enjoy 24-hour access.
