17 Room Hostel in San Jose
After three enjoyable years running a hostel and living in Costa Rica, it has come time to move on to other things. My girlfriend is finishing her Master’s and we plan to move to Texas so I can go back to school. Trying to manage a hostel from out of the country is a difficult endeavor and I would rather pass the reins to someone else versus closing the doors. My place is called Castle Tam Hostel and it is located in San Pedro, San Jose very close to the University of Costa Rica. The building has 17 private rooms and one 8 bed dormitory. One of the private rooms has five beds in it and has served as a backup dorm. Each dorm bed has a privacy curtain, a light and a plug socket. Four of the private rooms have private bathrooms. There are three and a half public bathrooms. The showers have actual hot water as I have installed a solar heater on the roof. This also reduced my electric bill by $200 a month. The beds are metal so they are more stable and will last much longer than the cheap wood beds some hostels still use. The bunk beds can be stacked or put side-by-side. There are two kitchens each with proper food storage for guests. Also included are three refrigerators. The stove tops are gas which also reduces the bills appreciably. Installed is a 4-camera surveillance system that backs up three days of footage onto a DVR and can be viewed on a computer. The reception has a display case which is used to sell items backpackers may need. The garage has been converted to a staff room with a flat screen television, entertainment center and a bar. Someone ambitious enough could turn could get a liquor license and turn it into a great revenue stream for the hostel. With the University of Costa Rica only five blocks away there are a lot of bars and restaurants in the area. I have a business license and am registered with the tax bureau so I am completely legal. The current lease goes through September 2015. Rent is $1500 per month. I am asking $50,000 for the business and everything inside of it. I am open to financing options.
