The hostel has been a fixture in the San Jose Area for over a decade and is well known throughout the country as well as Central America. In the last five years the new ownership polished a diamond in the rough into something spectacular. The atmosphere and "vibe" that has been created is unlike any other hostel in the area. There is a distinct Bohemian flair, from the fabric ceilings to the prayer flags - it definitely sticks out in a most intriguing way.
It comes complete with a turn key bar, complete with beer coolers, draft beer system, sound system, several flat screen televisions, a Wii, as well as all of the items needed to stock a professional bar.
There is a small back patio for hammocks, smoking, and grilling(both propane and charcoal grills are included in the sale)
There is a communal kitchen with refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, as well as industrial baking racks for food storage as well as pots, pans, dishes, etc... (also, the kitchen has been painted by an accomplished artist from Toronto - in a whimsical "Alice in Wonderland" mural)
Off of the kitchen are two stock rooms for beer, dry goods, and souvenirs. There is also a full bathroom. Connected to the larger of the two stockrooms is a small loft currently used as a managerial quarters with a double bed(lofted) and a single bed used as a sofa facing a small desk area.
The lobby area has been built out to resemble somewhat of a tiki-style area. With Caribbean colors, several sealy posturepedic mattress' have been arranged into a couch area and a fake drop ceiling made of thatch has been added to a thatched counter to really drive the point home. The lobby is also complete with souvenir racks and a lending library of several hundred books as well as almost a hundred guidebooks on Costa Rica, Central America, and South America.
Head upstairs to the 2nd floor common area through the open stairwell and it empties into an open area with a small reading area to one side that opens to a second floor balcony overlooking the Costa Rican National Art Museum and La Sabana Park. The balcony also overlooks main parade routes. To the other side of the stairs there is a larger open area that leads to the three dorms(4, 8, and 14 bed) as well as one of the full bathrooms upstairs. A hallway from the upstairs common area leads to the wood floored private room area. There are three private rooms - one with a double bed as well as two with two singles. There is also another full bathroom.
Other than the wooden floors in the dormitories as well as the private area, the rest of the building is tiled in 200 year old Spanish tile floors.
Less than a month ago the world famous "Bodeguita del Medio" opened on our same block, and has been attracting a ton of foot traffic. Two months ago a great English pub opened a block away and there are two nightclubs(one of which is the largest in Costa Rica) one block away. The British and Israeli embassies are within a block as well. The location is prime, and it is close to all bus stops as well as being the first hostel on the bus route from the airport.
Please contact for further details. This hostel won't last long as the owner is eager to get back to the States and his family, and is willing to accept any reasonable offer(verified financials available upon request).
