I meen what are the minuses and pluses of having the separate dorm for the man and women , or having the mixed dorm ?
Will I loose the couples in case if I shall make the separate dorm policy.
Thank you.
Is it better mixed dorm or separate one ?
Thank you.

I think it works to have mostly co-ed dorms, with a few female dorms, and possible one unofficial male-only dorm (if you have a lot of rooms).
I've never worked in a hostel that didn't have co-ed dorms, so I don't know the advantage to keeping them separate.

I would just worry about the solitary backpackers who are forced to share the dorm with a low class drunk couples who are coming from the party - dead drunk.:D
Actually , generally it works ok with a mixed dorm.
Usually shared dorm backpackers are sober - minded.
But may be in the hostels where the guests are allowed or in the hostels of the party cities like Amsterdam or Paris , to think about the separate dorms would be a vital topic.

Peter - from reading your messages I would presume that you have not traveled very much. If you get a week of spare time then use it to visit 2 or 3 hostels to see how they work. You will learn more in 1 hour than a week on this forum.
Good luck.

If the couple has booked two beds , and not a private room then they should realize that they are not alone in the room , and the hostels rules fixed on the paper or on the stand should mind them about it.
Because if there will be no hostels dorm rules , later the hostel can be transformed to the place where some backpackers would never go.
Not every backpacker lives by the principle '' sex , drugs , and rockn'roll ''
There is a time and place for every thing.
And if I want to accept the students ,schools groups , I should be aware about the proper hostels atmosphere.
I know one hostel owner who think that if he constantly takes the backpackers to the pub crawls , and allows them to bring the particular guests to the hostel ... then the character and fun of his hostel is among the top ones.
No way !
Its absurd !
I am sure that that hostel owner in one year will be alkoholic and the reputation of his hostel will be transformed to the hostel which is not for every body.
If there are about three rooms , then might be one can be mixed , and two dorm rooms can be separate dorms.
Or even if there are all mixed dorm then probably there must be the rules that the backpackers would know that ... the dorm is not a private room.
I used to travel for a while , for example in Amsterdam I used to stay in ''the last waterhole ( doesn't exist any more ) and I used to stay in ''the shelter city'' ( one of the most conservative hostels in Europe ).
Of course the hostel should n't be a military training camp , because backpackers are the fun people , but as I said - there is a place and time for every thing...
