Bed and Bike America

This month, One Street, an international bicycle advocacy organization, will launch its brand new Bed and Bike America program. This program, the first of its kind in America, will connect cycle tourists with bicycle-friendly accommodations (including hostels!).
“Bed and Bike America” works through a free website where bicycle-friendly accommodation vendors can publish their accommodation information and cycle tourists can plan their trips by finding them with just three clicks on the site. The site is also an important way to showcase bicycle-friendly accommodations.

The idea of Bed and Bike was born in 1993 in Germany. A group of enthusiast cycle tourists, working for the bicycle advocacy organization ADFC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad Club) – one of One Street’s best supporters, were tired of campsites, hostels and hotels that did not care for the needs of bicyclists. So they created “Bett & Bike”. This program became a network of accommodation vendors all over Germany and its border regions, fulfilling basic requirements to be an attractive place for cyclists. Today you can find around 4,600 bicycle-friendly accommodations listed on their website and it is on its way to expanding all over Europe. One Street is working with ADFC to ensure our program launches with the most important elements so that someday it will be as extensive as theirs for America.

One Street serves organization leaders around the world because in order to increase bicycling worldwide, all organizations working to increase bicycling must operate at the highest level. We are seeking accommodation vendors who understand the great potential of bicyclists and groups of bicyclists for their businesses and can fulfill our very basic requirements.
We have found that most places are already bike friendly or need just a few new provisions in order to meet our requirements.
