Hostel Help!
Hello, I am from Canada and I am trying to opening a hostel in Spain. I am having a very hard time getting a visa for Spain though. Does anyone have any good info on helping me out. If I can not receive a visa for Spain I would look at France, Germany (both high living expenses though, may be hard on a 25 bed hostel), Italy or even Croatia. I have looked into Croatia before and it seems very corrupt and not the best place to open shop. I would look at South America (but I have never been there).
Does anyone have any advice on a country that is easy to get a visa, cheap land/rent, low cost of living that is in need of a hostel? Beach towns and warm weather OR advice on Spain.
Thanks in advance!

Well I talked with the Canadian embassy in Spain and they said that Spain is not giving out any visa at this point but I can still try. I just emailed them today to find out what they will say before I talk to realtors, lawyers, look at property and all that work just to get turned down. When I was in Spain recently I was reading that they are even wanting to pay immigrants to leave Spain because their economy is doing so poorly. We will see how it goes.

If you're investing in their country and creating jobs I would think they would want to give you a visa. Spain has many different kinds of visa. Investor visas are different than work visas.
(I'm also applying for a Spanish visa, but a different type.)

Yes I am looking at an investors visa. I emailed the Consulate of Spain in Ottawa yesterday and asked them for some advice, just waiting right now to hear back.

I'd be interested in hearing from you if you would like to open a new hostel in Sicily? You can contact me at :
