I am thinking about something similar. I want to start a hostel in the UK, but not sure about locations though.
Hey, like everyone else on here I want to start my own hostel!...Currently I'm still only at the idea/thinking about it stage and don't really know where to start...any help would be very much appreciated.
After travelling the world and working in the travel industry for the last few years and staying in plenty of hostels along the way, this idea formed in my head. I'm 26 and will possibly have a business partner but may be doing it alone. I want to open my hostel in England, this town is popular and has a number of hostels already but most are more hotel-types. I want to do something new, have a large space and have it more in the style of the kind of places they have in Oz and NZ, more flashy and more of a traveller vibe. I have, however noticed about 2 or 3 brand new hostels have just popped up in this area, I think other people may have similar ideas to mine!...But this could be a positive sign, right?
I'd like some advice on costs and budget if poss. and any other advice anyone can give....feel a bit clueless at the moment!
Thanks.

I would like to see a hostel started in one of the two attractive towns in my county, Ludlow and Shrewsbury. I would be interested in collaborating with anyone who could be interested in the same thing. I could contribute some funds, but unfortunately nowhere near the amount needed to buy a property, as all potential properties would be pretty expensive!

Our group, Nomads has several properties. Over the last two years we have been opening "flashpackers" - high standard hostels. They are proving very popular so far we are tying to fit in great features which enhance the guest experience and make people go "wow thats cool"!
The most important thing tough is that no matter how much you spend, how trendy your place is you will always loose to the competitor who has friendlier staff, a more entertaining atmosphere and is cleaner - no matter what standard of property they are

Hi,
I just wondered how you have progressed with your idea as this is something I am looking to do in the near future.

It's important to do your research. First read 'how to open a hostel' from this site.
Then Google 'business plan templates' and start working on that. It will help guide your research. Good luck.

Hi,
I saw your thread.
i want to start a hostel in Bucharest - i beleive there are no hostels here yet.
maybe we can co - operate - open a franchize? use your successfull model?
i can fund the investment [have investors lined up]. I also located a building in the center and have given an offer [i am a bit worried that it is too small - 340 square meters built in 3 floors - but located in the center center of Bucharest].
