Hi...obviously there is more to starting and running a hostel than meets the eye. I have some questions about running a hostel in Montreal, Qc. If there are any hostel owners/ workers that would like to help me find some info that would be great.
First thing is how are they zoned, what type of permit would the city want?
Second...where do you find that info?...because the city of montreal website is pretty much impossible. Are there any funny little things the city nails you for to do this??

Hi.
I'm trying to start a hostel in Bellingham, so I have needed to find the answers to all these questions. Unfortunately, there are no universal answers. Seeing as I am in the US and you are in Canada, it is quite likely that the information will vary. However, I can point you in the right direction.

First of all - visit city hall! Talk to city planners. They have a wealth of knowledge that is essential to starting a hostel, or any business, in your area. Plus, they can tell you where to find most information related to city ordinances and land use. Very important. The assessors office might also be of some help to you. Zoning maps can often be found online. You just need to know where to look. Like I said, city planners can usually help you find this info if you don't know where to get it on the website.
