Base Camp Hostel
McGrath Roadhouse main facility was built in 1953. It was formerly the US Post Office and Air Terminal after the city moved to this side of the river in the 1930s. Over time the building also served as a trading post along the trail on the way to Nome.
Nowadays the roadhouse accommodates adventurous travelers from all around the world in a comfortable, affordable place and serves as a logistics hub for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race.
Whether you come to McGrath to attend to the famous Iditarod winter races, go fishing, hunting, hiking, see wildlife or rush for gold… just ask and we will be happy to prepare your activities and guide you around.
