Backpacker Hostel
Malcolm X is a ‘one of a kind’ hostel in Kampala.
Everything in our hostel is designed to make it your home away from home. Located in the central, safe and comfortable neighborhood of Kololo, the hostel is just a short distance from Kampala's best restaurants and nightlife. Our premises are the perfect combination between the atmosphere of a backpackers' hostel and a place to call home during your travels.
We have a communal kitchen fully equipped for guest use, and there is a supermarket just a skip and a hop away from the hostel!
Our communal indoor areas and beautiful garden are the perfect spot for meeting new friends, chilling with a book, practicing yoga, or just kicking back with our wonderful guests and staff. Besides all that, we have 24 hours reception and security and we are always here to help with anything you might need!
Malcolm X hostel offers 6 bed mixed dorm rooms as well as private rooms, but above all, it is meant to be a home. A home for us, our amazing staff from the social program, and of course, for you and your fellow travelers!
Besides all that - our hostel is a socially-oriented business and by staying with us, you are supporting young adults from underprivileged communities in Kampala on their path towards a better future.
All of our employees are young men and women, who grew up in the slums of Kampala and still find the courage to dream and work for a different and better future.
Aria, our social program, focuses on tackling one of Uganda’s main and most difficult issues: youth unemployment.
The program identifies skilled young adults from the local community with big ambitions and potential and employs them in the business for one year. During their time of employment, each participant gets to attend classes and workshops on financial management, entrepreneurship, leadership, and life skills, all while receiving support in applying for higher education scholarships and vocational training programs.
Our primary goal is for the program graduates to not only become financially independent but become fully active members of society, ambassadors of change, leaders in their communities, and active participants in the fight against poverty and unemployment.
It is our belief that real and substantial change can and must come from the community itself and our goal is to uplift those young humans to be the ones to lead it.
