Alexander House, Charlottesville, VA, USA
Alexander House has been in business for since 2005 . On Oct. 1st a collective of 6 owners purchased the tangible and intangible assets of the business and assumed management.
Alexander House is a beautifully restored home in the charming Belmont neighborhood of Charlottesville, VA. It is clean and cozy, a very relaxed atmosphere, and is host to a wide range of people. We host everyone from elderly couples to bicycle tourists, concert goers to wedding participants, young backpackers to weekend tourists. We've also hosted guests from dozens of countries from every continent.
We currently have a total of 7 beds in 3 rooms (though we're expanding into a back-building on the property, which will almost double our capacity). The Ace is a private room with a double bed. The Deuce has two single beds. The Full House is our dorm room with two bunk beds (single on top, double on the bottom.) Whole-house reservations are also available.
We're near downtown Charlottesville, conveniently located between Charlottesville's famous pedestrian downtown mall, the Unviersity of Virginia, and the historic Monticello estate. We offer airport, bus, and train station pick-ups/drop-offs for less than the cost of a taxi, and rental cars and bicycles. Bread and fruit, coffee and tea are complimentary, as is plenty of information on Charlottesville attractions.
We're also excited to be demonstrating the benefits and viability of collective ownership. We operate by consensus, divide up the work and responsibilities as we choose, and are able to create increadibly flexible schedules for ourselves. 2 months into ownership, and 5 months after we formed the collective, things are going fantastically.
