The party is almost here. Is anyone from this site going? Sadly I'm not around Ottawa or I would definitely attend.
The map looks really good. Nice work!
Hi,
I've just finished the Alternative Travel Guide for Ottawa. This is a backpacker map made by locals and is the first of its kind in North America. These types of map are extremely popular in Europe, (see USE-IT Europe) and have already been shown to have a positive impact on tourism in a city. They include all the information which you would expect to get from the receptionist at a hostel (e.g. where's the nearest liquor store, nearest supermarket etc) plus some really great recommendations from locals about where they would actually go to. It's all about improving a backpacker's experience in a city and Ottawa is a prime example of where these maps are a necessity. It's great if you've lived here for years, not so great if you come here for a couple of days.
So I would like to invite you to come and test any preconceived ideas that you may have about Ottawa. I would like to invite you to The Alternative Ottawa Experience! It's your chance to get involved in something big, at the start. I will be expanding the Alternative Travel Guide shortly, next destination to be announced.
The 2 day event will be held on 7th - 9th May and here is what is planned:
You can RSVP to this event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/636138019794522/?ref=ts&fref=ts
If you would like to know further details, or would like a sneak peak of the map, then please PM me!
Thanks,
Katrina

Hi there,
We had a couple of people along from a hostel in Toronto. I actually opened the party up to travellers in the area so we had a really good turn out...and some very good feedback on the map!
And thank you for your comments :) Next we're looking to make a digital version of the map and help people do research on the city before they get there.
Cheers,
Katrina
