"Australians Not Welcome" in Australian Hostels

Hostels are not for people who have just been chucked out of their girlfriend´s place or all sorts of weirdos.

That reminds me of a few more that I used to regularly see at hostels that let locals stay:

• just got out of prison and only has a few dollars and a bag of clothes
• was "robbed" and doesn't have any ID or possessions but can show the front desk a police report "to prove it"
• checks into the hostel in order to steal from guests (or sometimes just befriends guests to gain access)
• deals drugs and wants a steady source of customers from hostel guests and other locals who were let in the hostel.
• can't save enough money to pay the deposit on an apartment so checks into a hostel. Sometimes can be seen begging on a street downtown during the day to raise money for the next night's stay.
• seems perfectly normal at check-in, but after a few beers needs to be maced by the police and dragged out screaming in handcuffs :)

I don't know how it is in Australia, but locals-in-hostels doesn't work in the US. I wouldn't ban all Americans from a US hostel but would require an out of state or out of county ID.

...ive even had a guy try and convince me he was a cop... but didnt have his ID.

I've gotten fake "guidebook writers" who are trying to get a red carpet and free stuff, but never a fake cop :D
