The big breweries in the USA generally make crap beer, but many of the micro brews are good...

japanese commercial beer is surprisingly good but the micro brews that are coming out here are just amazing. But looks like an interesting doco.

Haven't seen this, but have seen Beerfest which was pretty funny. Not sure if it's an accurate representation of Oktoberfest though?

In the US The "Big three" are considered to be of low quality, but there are many other American beers that are rated amongst the best in the world. Ironically none of the "Big three" are US owned anymore!

That's interesting -- I didn't know they were all foreign companies.
Just looked it up:
Anheuser-Busch is owned by InBev (Belgium).
Coors is half-owned(?) by Molson (Canada).
Miller is based in London.

I finally had a chance to watch Beer Wars last night. It's a great documentary about how large brewing companies in the US use the current 3-tiered distribution system and other techniques to try to keep small breweries out of the market.
One surprising fact that was mentioned in the movie is that the US has the widest selection of beer of any country in the world with 1400 independent breweries making 60 varieties of beer. (Wikipedia says 1500 breweries.)
