The biggest hostel group on Facebook?
OK - so I know you are all partying in Dublin. Have fun my friends.
But . . . which is the biggest hostel group on Facebook?
There is a hostel in La Paz, Bolivia with 2908 friends - can you beat that?

That is amazingly high.
But be aware Facebook does check those with very high friends numbers and then can decide that it is a company page and remove the page completly. I have heard of others who had that experience.

I've heard of a few hostels that got deleted from Facebook, but the way I understood their situations (though I could be wrong) is that they were using Facebook Profiles for their businesses.
There are several types of Facebook content, including:
- Profiles -- this is the account that you login under. It has to be a person or they might shut it down.
- Pages -- a page created by a person with a profile. These can be created by businesses like a hostel.
- Groups -- a group created by a person with a profile. These can also be created by businesses.

This is good information. I know some hostels that have had to list themselves under the name of one of their staff members instead of their hostel name.

I think the best way to do it is to have the hostel manager's Facebook Profile create a Facebook Page (instructions). Then, to make sure that the Hostel's page isn't tied into only one Facebook profile, give the hostel owner's (or other managers') Facebook Profile "admin" access to the Facebook page.
With a Facebook page, a hostel can even create a custom URL once they reach 100 fans, e.g., facebook.com/hostelmanagement...

How does this work? We've recently passed 100 fans but I don't know how to create the custom URL.
We created a profile for a bird that's a regular in our garden, then created a page for the hostel linked to that profile.
