I am a Canadian considering starting a hostel in the US - just at the research stage at this point. I'm wondering if anyone on this forum has successfuly gone through this process (ie starting a hostel in the US as a foreign national). Specifically I am curious about things like the feasibility of getting a loan to buy property and the legal ramifications of working in the country (work visas, taxes, llc status etc) but I'll take whatever advice is out there. I've found a good location with a niche market but if the logistics will be a nightmare it might not be worth it.

All I can say is good luck, I've had friends just going down there for skilled work in IT and business and each said it was a tonne of paperwork and a lot of headaches. I suspect that could be multiplied when looking to open a business there. I would check the US immigration website/documents very thoroughly.
