canadian hostel stats and laws

hello,

i'm looking to start up a hostel in montreal. looking for statistics and trends in canada, specifically in montreal, as well as the laws for running one. not easy to come by. or maybe i'm just looking in the wrong places. i'm very new at this, clearly.

any tips/suggestions/info would be greatly appreciated.
