Interesting.
the new hostel’s normal capacity will be 100 people in more than 30 private rooms and dormitories
That looks like a lot of doubles and small privates. Confirms my point in the "is the dorm aspect dying" debate.
New hostel opening in Wales:
A WELSH businessman is defying the economic downturn by investing £1m in turning a well-known Cardiff hotel into a luxury hostel.
Sion Llewelyn, who already operates the award-winning Cardiff Backpackers hostel in Neville Street, has taken over the former Riverbank Hotel in Despenser Street, facing the Millennium Stadium across the River Taff.
Mr Llewelyn is convinced the credit crunch will reinforce the “quality-without-frills” appeal to national and international travellers – including increasingly adventurous middle-aged guests.

Not necessarily! As it seems, NosDa just moved from Neville street to the riverside...
Cardiff’s first independent property has moved with the times to relocate to a site that is second to none!
NosDa Studio Property becomes Cardiff Backpacker mark 2, with all the experience, values and knowledge boosted by a £1 million makeover.
Maybe the newly opened Riverhouse backpackers (since late 2007) didn't do much good for his business! RB has constant 96% and there are only 4 hostels in town, so if that hostel is big enough, there is a tough situation going on... so I guess he just wanted to make something competitive enough which he couldn't do at the original place.
As well the context of "more than 30 private rooms and dormitories" didn't convince me a lot.
IMHO it means they can cater 100 people now in 30 rooms, both privates and dorms, but when they fixed everything, they can cater up to 160.
We both know Sion as a smart man, let's hope he'll be in Dublin and let's clarify the background of the story! ;)
