30 views and not one response, come on people im not expecting essays here-just a few words would be great !!
Hi there,
In early stages of planning to open a hostel. Travelled on every continent and stayed in every kind of hostel, good and bad. Im set on central america, I loved the time I spent in South America and kinda set my heart on central america.
Mexico is not on the agenda, not my favourite destination-felt like I was in America most of the time. Costa Rica seems out of my reach now for starting up. I kinda had my heart set on guatemala, but im now looking at belize,Hondurus and Panama.
Just wondering what other peoples thoughts were on where my best option may be?

I'm thinking the same thing. When would you be looking to get this going?
Why is cr of your radar?
Send me a message.

At the start of what Im assuming is going to be a long road. Ive ruled out Costa Rica, just because in my opinion it has already passed from backpacker destination to holiday destination and I think I will get more value for money elsewhere. If money wasnt an issue or I did this 5 years ago, then yeah Costa Rica would have been the place-but realistically its gonna be somewhere else.
Where you thinking?

looks like you found help, but i'll toss in 2c worth... i have heard hot and cold on Belize one man called it a cesspool. (Texan like me) and i've heard others call Belize a paradise. i also read that Guatemala has bandits at night on the highways... i thought of driving thru Mexico to Guatemala, back in the pre-drug war days. lately i heard Guatemala is drug world, too... good luck! h! i do remember positive coments i read about Panama...

I travelled in Guate last year and is not as bed as many people say.
moreover, I need the same advice for the same reason. I know is a big area but: between guate and perú? I´d exlude panama and costa rica for the already explained reasons. I´d like somewhere with a mix of nature(mountain) and pre-colombian culture.

Personally, I would say Nicaragua. It was by far my favorite while bumming down Central America. Its Costa Rica 20 years ago... (is what I have heard)
Leon is an amazing city, and last I knew there where two decent hostels there. I know Bigfoot hostel was for sale a year or so ago... Not sure if it still is... But nonetheless, its an amazing country - and you will find backpackers, not tourists ;)
