Twitter has a list of "world leaders" who use Twitter.

Here's the list of people it includes:

Here is the stream of tweets:

You can chat with anyone on Twitter, and maybe they will chat back :)

If they are Tweeting in a foreign language, download Google Chrome and it will offer to translate webpages into your language with one click. (Though if you're concerned about privacy at all, don't use Google Chrome for regular browsing.)

@BarackObama isn't likely to reply, but people like @QueenRania, @chavezcandanga, @YLeterme, and @jensstoltenberg might...

Find these sort of things interesting - govts using twitter and suchlike to "connect" with the people. The problem is of course that for it to have any use the people have to feel that their input is valued. Interesting article here about the new UK govt using crowdsourcing to get ideas for govt. Ultiimately according to the article all the ideas were effectively ignored.

It's hard for me personally to take these sort of initiatives seriously. Do people believe that any of these politicians regularly check their twitter or facebook? Or even write the content on it? Perhaps I am just too cynical.

It depends on the politician. It looks like some of them are personally replying on a Blackberry :)
