Do you think it's really constructive for guests?
For me, i think it seems helpful for some to see the real picture of each property.As hostel owners, "disliked ' negatively leads and indirectly forces guests to write silly comments and bizaare reviews because in fact some of them cannot really think about weak points of thier hostels.
These examples which i found from different hostels:
-The staffs are too old
-Don't like the type of free rental notebook without mouse
-I don't like the decor which will possibly be nest for mosquitoes,
-Only hostel guests allowed in the dorm, it's not good place to bring other people from bar back to.
-Mosquitoes outside were pretty rough
-Check out time 12 pm is not good after late night party
-Weather outside was a bit hot
-The smoothie didn't contain actual fruit
-met some weirdos in the place

That's getting ridiculous...
Instead of prompting guests to write something bad, I think it would be better to just give them a comment box and let them write what they would like.

HB used to ask only the question: "What did you like about this hostel?"
That was very unsatisfactory, because we only saw positive comments! Except for a few guests who were so annoyed with some aspect that they wrote negatively in spite of the question. It meant that HB reviews were not useful.
So HB has now added "What did you dislike?" If you can leave this blank, that's OK. If it's a compulsory question, then you are bound to get replies such as those above. But the reviews are now useful and fair.
The BUG site used to ask for simple descriptive reviews, and I was pleased to oblige. Then they changed to: "What was the best thing about this hostel" and "What was the worst thing about this hostel" as COMPULSORY QUESTIONS!! Well for heaven's sake, I don't ever think about the WORST thing! I may have something negative to say, I may not. Rather than writing "silly comments", I just throw away my review.
The problem is with questionaires that try to do too much. If they force me to answer questions I dont know the answer to, as HB does, they don't get a review from me.
