I still get out and about.. Vanuatu, last year, Thailand again some time this year, UK and Europe towards the end of the year. Great way to remember why you're in the industry.
So just looking at my watch, I've noticed I have spent another 12hrs on the laptop working through my business plan. As I sit here feeling smug with the progress I'm making, it just occurred to me that my love of travel could soon be over! My question is..........
Now you're a hostel owner, do you still get to travel or are those days but a distant memory?!!

I close up for Jan and Feb every year and head off to recharge my batteries...just back from Cambodia and Laos..last year Nicaragua and Guatemala...the year before Colombia..next year ?? ... great to get new ideas for my own place, talk to other hostel owners and realise again what its like from the other side... what youre looking for when you arrive into a new place...and get some sun!

Every beginning is hard. I bet you won't have time to go anywhere for the first one or two years. But why would you wanna go anywhere if the whole world comes to you?
I still travel about once in a month, although rather short distances and these are mostly "working holidays" (besides the regular one when even my phone is off) but there could be always a travel reason to blame! :p Also there's always the option to close down the shop for a few month during off season if you are so desperate! ;)

Ha, cheers guys. Susie and Shannon its great to hear the travel bug hasn't been killed off. Aboriginal.....I am bracing myself for a couple of years of hard work, but I guess at the same time I am really relishing it too. Hopefully the whole world will come to me at around 80% occupancy!
