Hostelworld.com Bookings Reveal Emerging Travel Hotspots (24 June 2009)

...[Hostelworld] announced substantial industry growth in new destinations across the globe including Moldova and Columbia, where over the past year bookings grew 600 percent and 266 percent, respectively*. Ukraine hostel bookings increased by 181 percent during this time period, while Uruguay experienced growth of 147 percent.
Top Cities emerging as popular travel destinations are:
- Kiev, Ukraine - 218 percent
- Zadar, Croatia - 160 percent
- Hiroshima, Japan - 89 percent
Other regions that experienced significant growth in hostel bookings over the past year include:
- El Salvador - 104 percent
- South Korea - 86 percent
- Malaysia - 45 percent

Yeah... I remember when HW announced 50% growth in Bratislava few years ago. The reason was the one hostel which was already there signed up to HW so the guests could book with HW as well! :D
Translating such statement means that online bookings grown by such amount, does not necessarily mean that the demand increased! ;)

I wonder if it might partially be due to improved search engine rankings from Hostelworld and/or from affiliates.
Translating such statement means that online bookings grown by such amount, does not necessarily mean that the demand increased! ;)
It might be stretching the data a bit to call it a travel trend. :)
