To try to increase forum participation from hostels, I'm modifying a few of the forums sections so that people have to register to read the threads. Hopefully that will encourage more registrations and participation.
The only change that current users might notice is that if you're not logged in, you might get a prompt to login before continuing to the forum message.

Sounds good. Also, you might consider doing member levels/reputation like:
Junior(+1)
Member(+50)
Bronze member(+100)
Silver member(+300)
Gold member (+500)
Platinum member (+1000)

People are always looking for more when is about their image !
This can be an example of hierarchy and also, I think will stimulate the actual members, to be more active. This will give them like a member ''reputation''.
Just an idea...:)
