If you're bored and want to test your front desk staff's money counting abilities, here's a fun puzzle:
Three guests enter the hostel and pay for a $30 private room. They go up to the room, when suddenly the manager realizes that they should have gotten the $25 price.
The manager sends up an employee with $5 to give back to the guests, but the employee realizes that it will be too difficult to split the $5 evenly between three persons, so he pockets $2, and gives $1 each to the three guests.
So, now each of the three guests paid $10 and got back $1. Those three payments of $9 make $27, and the employee pocketed $2, bringing the total to $29.
Where did the other dollar go?
:)
