Just received an email from Gomio:

"From the 26th of Feb. we are reducing our commission fee rete in www.gomio.com from 10% to 9%".

It is nice to see they are still alive.
It seems like the Hostelworld/Hostelbookers approach has produced a lot of negative emotions.
Hope gomios step helps to come to a positive attitude towards new developments like the integration of MyAllocator support into MisterXBookings Property Management for hostels, which is still in beta, of course the Myallocator integration, not the PMS itself, it is in use since more than three years.
As far as i have seen yet it seems to be the first desktop solution PMS offering MyAllocator integration.

Always good news.

I have been listed with them for a year now and while I have not got a booking through them I like to support them.

One of the issues with the smaller OTA's is having the inventory of a large number of hostels.

The more inventory Gomio has the better for them and hopefully us.

So once you have a channel manager it is very easy to do this and I believe that Gomio even has there own channel manager for free.

Joined Gomio and yet to get a booking. I am not sure if they will be able to compete. By increasing the commission on HW/HB, they will spend some of that marketing on advertising. More than likely Google adwords. Google seems to be the clear winner in these hotel booking engine wars.

I think if the hostel manager would make more use of the unbeatable position to be able to talk directly to the guest and do some advertising regarding Gomio or even offering something special regarding the now 3% difference could help a lot.
Everybody knows Hostelworld, but nobody knows about gomio. Why don't you try to help to change this?

Gomio was selling the PMS called ASSD which has a channel manager built in. On their website the price listing is 20 Euro per Channel per month, with a minimum of ten channels.
MyAllocator is 12 Euro per Month for all channels.
So maybe some people might even think it is not a professional solution, simply because of the fair pricing,
No? Shows about their attitude towards hostelling as something more than only making money.

Hostels are in a position to decide who we want to work with, and it is becoming increasingly important to support the partners who demonstrate a respect for our businesses. We can influence where and how the travelers book based on where we distribute our bed inventory, what rates we give, which sites we support inside our hostels, etc.

Gomio doesn't have the deep pockets that some other OTAs do, so they can't spend a ridiculous fortune buying AdWords. Instead they have developed some unique social tools that connect travelers with each other even before they arrive in our hostels. This allows them to provide a service to travelers that other sites do not provide. Supporting sites like Gomio could help bring fair competition back to the bigger OTAs, which is ultimately very good for all hostels.
