Guests can now change Hotelworld bookings

One of Hostelworld.com's latest features is the 'change your booking' option. This great new feature allows you to make changes to any booking you've made, and all you have to do is select the 'change booking' option in your MyWorld account.
Has anyone seen this in their bookings yet? How does it work from the hostel's side of things?

So who gets the "service charge"? Some how I don't think the hostel will get this for shuffling things around on their own system when the person changes thru HW. Will they also credit you difference if the deposit is smaller?

We haven't had a change yet, as long as the guest can't modify it after they've arrived at the hostel, I welcome the additional flexibility for the guest.
Unless I missed something, I do think it would be nice to give the hostels more formal notice of their changes. A little news piece in the hostel inbox isn't sufficient in my opinion.
Just a short email with a FAQ would do, no biggie!

I haven't seen anyone change the dates of their reservation or add/remove days, but I have received automatic emails from my Hostelworld Buddy's address telling me that "Reference No:XXXXX-XXXXXXXX has changed their arrival time."
If the hostels don't know about this feature, then the backpackers aren't likely to know either. I get constant requests to add a day to reservations since I have a 2-night minimum to book online, and the guests don't want to pay the deposit for a day they won't stay. Obviously they don't know that they can alter their reservation now. I'm happy to add the extra day myself and not give 10% of the money away to Hostelworld.

Hostelworld has notified hostel owners and managers about the new 'change booking' option in two hostel newsletters and it was also added to our News section in Inbox in advance of this going live. This functionality should reduce the amount of correspondence with customers who want to change their bookings as they can now do so automatically. If you have any further questions about this new option please contact your hostel buddy or Account Manager.

I think there´s nothing Hostelworld has done wrong here.
We were informed about that feature and it works in the most foolproof way: old reservation cancelled, new reservation in the inbox. No real changes for the hostels there.

"Account Manager" = "Buddy".
Open inbox, klick on "help" (top right side):

Exactly! I'm also happy with more correspondence if they ask to add more days.
Change arrival time option is useful though.
