I wasn't sure where to post this thread, but I was looking through HostelPedia and came across the term "hostal" for the first time. I wiki-ed it immediately and found out that it is "a Spanish word for a category of lodging. Hostales tend to be cheaper than hotels. They normally provide a bar and/or a restaurant/cafeteria where drinks and food is sold, to guests and locals alike. Accommodations typically include private bedrooms, sometimes combined with backpacker dormitories, and/or apartments with the possibility to rent either short or long term..."
It has been suggested on wikipedia that the article should be merged with "hostel". I wasn't able to find much else on google about the term, so I was wondering if anyone knows much about its origin, and in your opinion, should they be considered a type of hostel (or are they?).
