Frankly if you opened a hostel in Edinburgh in the next 6 months you would be wasting your rent anyways. Its a saturated market and winter is not friendly.

Hello to the Hostel Managment Site :)
I am currently working on opening a new hostel in Edinburgh. We have found the ideal Premesis in the perfect area but have not yet signed a lease.
I have been in touch with Edinburgh council and they have told me it will take 6-8 weeks before our application is either accepted or rejected.
The problem is (and will be with any premesis) if we sign a lease and have our application rejected we will lose all the money paid out in rent for the building.
Does anyone have similar experiense or can shed any light on if the 6-8 week wait is accurate.
I spoke to one local hostel owner who waited 3 YEARS for a permit.
