I asked Erica at Hostelworld how she sees the Featured Property Listing function going so far on their side. Understandably, it would be misleading for them to give statistics so early in the infancy of the program. She said that it is performing quite well though, giving hostels double the exposure of a normal listing since they are listed twice on the search results page.
Erica said that this functionality is something that hostels have requested for a long time as an additional way to promote their properties on Hostelworld. Now it is available through your Hostelworld Inbox.
I’m not surprised that this feature has been successful so far, especially in highly competitive markets. Paying more for targeted advertising that sets a hostel apart from the others is a MUCH better strategy than dropping their rates to compete on price. The question still remains though: What is the ROI for a hostel?
